Introduction and Career Objective
A resume is composed of various components. Each constituent of a resume holds an individual and a collective objective. Resume without well-defined components can deliver no positive returns for your mails with resume attached and addressed to your prospective employers. So, it is very important for one to clearly and neatly distinguish all skills and qualifications under appropriate headings so as to enable the latter to quickly understand your personality and ring in you for an interview.
There could be different titles or headings in a resume but the basic ideas that a resume should convey or present are –candidate’s contact details; career statement; educational qualification; additional or add-on course details; work experience/ internship made; work portfolio; additional information related to skills, interests and so on; personal details inclusive of your date of birth and such other relevant information; final declaration.
Encapsulating all these details in a resume we can classify them under the following heads:
- Introduction/ contact details of the candidate
- Career Objective
- Educational Qualification
- Certification Details
- Work Experience/ Internship/ Work Portfolio
- Additional Information
- Personal Details and Declaration
Let us discuss each one of them in detail:
Introduction/ contact details of the candidate
Resume serves as a source for the interviewer to know and fetch information about a candidate. If a resume impresses the interviewer and wishes to have an interview with the candidate, then he can easily access the required information from this section. So this component is like a pathway to your desired job role. Incorrect information mentioned here is like one turning down the opportunity that came one’s way.
Important information to be written here are:
- Candidate’s Name (As on Board Exam’s Marks Card/ Birth Certificate )
- Residential Address (Updated /current address)
- E-mail Id
- Contact Number (You may also share an alternative number)
Career Objective
Career Objective also called as career statement gives an insight into candidate’s qualifications and expectations concerning his career or professional life. That is, having read the career objective the interviewer can estimate if the candidate is a fit or misfit for the organisation with regards to his ambition and vision.
Tip: Thus while formulating a career objective, one should be extremely careful with choice of words, that is, do not sound over ambitious or under confident.
Career objective also assumes a lot of importance when your resume is uploaded on an online job portal. This is because when your career objective is stated you can make use of enormous key words that matches with your job requirement. “Key words” nothing but prominent search words matching the respective industry you aspire to plunge in. For example, your application for the post of graphic designer gains more weightage on an online job search platform with key words like, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, HTML, product design, 3D, logos, mockups, etc. These words help during the screening process of the resumes and thus bring your resume before the recruiters who are in search of the candidates with knowledge on concepts mentioned in the key words. Thus an application with such relevant keywords gets an upper hand over bulk of resumes available online. So, never fail to feed your resume with important “key words”.
